The need this addresses

The first months with an infant are managed on broken sleep, and most households absorb that alone. Parents recovering from birth are expected to heal while waking every two hours. Kinship and foster caregivers sometimes receive an infant with a few hours’ notice and no time to prepare. In many households one adult is already carrying more than they can sustain before the baby arrives.

Extended family is often far away, unavailable, or working. What support does exist tends to arrive as advice rather than as hands, and exhaustion at this depth stops being an inconvenience and becomes a safety question for everyone in the house.

What families can expect

  • A Newborn Care Specialist in your home during the hours you most need to sleep, overnight or through the day.
  • Feeding, changing, settling, and monitoring, so the adults in the household rest properly rather than half-rest.
  • Newborn Care Specialists holding current infant CPR certification and trained in safe sleep practice.
  • Notes on how the block went, including feeding and sleep patterns worth carrying into the next day.
  • Training through Washington State requirements plus our Ripple Method curriculum, in addition to infant CPR and safe sleep certification.

How it is delivered

Care is provided in your home, where the infant’s routine and equipment already are. Overnight blocks are the most requested arrangement, covering the hours parents most need to sleep without interruption. Daytime blocks are available for households where recovery, an older child, or work makes the day the harder stretch. We schedule in advance where possible and will tell you promptly if we cannot staff a request.

What this program does not include

This is non-medical care. Newborn Care Specialists do not provide nursing services, medical monitoring, medication administration, or support for a medically fragile infant, and this program is not a substitute for a home health nurse or a discharge care plan. Where a family needs clinical support, we say so at the first conversation and refer to providers who deliver it.

Intended outcomes

Adults who sleep recover faster, think more clearly, and are safer with an infant. Households hold together through the stretch that breaks the most of them, and where an infant has arrived through a kinship or foster placement, the earliest weeks are exactly where placements are most fragile and steady support matters most.

Services are privately funded. Flexible payment arrangements and sliding-scale options may be available, discussed during intake.

Questions

About this program.

Birth through 24 months, though most requests fall within the first year. Families with a child two and older are served through our Respite & Caregiver Support program.

No. This is non-medical care. Our Newborn Care Specialists do not provide nursing, medical monitoring, medication administration, or support for a medically fragile infant. If your child needs clinical care at home, we will say so directly and point you toward providers who offer it.

Yes. Overnight blocks are the most common request, and they exist so parents can sleep through a full cycle rather than surfacing every ninety minutes.

This is a frequent reason families call us. Kinship and foster caregivers often receive an infant with very little notice, and we will tell you honestly and promptly whether we can staff what you need.

Every Newborn Care Specialist in this program completes Washington State background screening, holds current infant CPR certification, and is trained in safe sleep practice before entering a home.
