- Sliding-scale options discussed at intake
The need this addresses
Raising a child with significant needs is isolating in a specific way: the people around you are sympathetic but do not recognize the details, and the people who would recognize them are not in your life. Most families in this position never meet another family managing something similar, despite living a few miles apart.
What families can expect
- Quarterly gatherings scheduled across the year, with dates shared well in advance.
- A setting built for families to meet each other rather than to receive a presentation.
- Accessible venues across Whatcom County.
- No barrier to attendance for enrolled families.
- Staff trained through Washington State requirements and our Ripple Method curriculum.
How it is delivered
Gatherings are held at accessible locations across the county and structured loosely, because the value is in the conversations rather than the programming. Dates are announced early enough for families to plan around them.
Intended outcomes
Families meet other families. Many stay in contact independently afterwards, which is the intended result. Practical knowledge moves between households in these conversations more effectively than through any material we could hand out.
